AMENITIES UPDATES

June 10, 2023:
EN Newsletter - I would like to give you an update on the Great Camp renovation project.  I want to first start off by thanking Wheels Contracting, Twin Oaks Landscaping, and our POA employees and countless others that helped bring this project to fruition.  The repairs to the stage were much more intensive than we anticipated and were fortunate to take on this renovation project when we did and we are happy to deliver the final product and one that our community can be proud of.  You will also observe the Great Camp restaurant footers have been poured and our dream will soon be coming out of the ground with an estimated completion date of approximately 18 months (Dec 2024).  If you drive by the trash compactor at the Great Camp, you will notice an area that has been graded behind the upper level parking lot which will be a multi-purpose court that will be built to the specs of a tennis court but also have the ability to have four pickle ball courts.  Completion on this project should be 30 days.  This tennis court project was a requirement by the NC ABC Commission in order for us to obtain our permanent liquor license.  This will also serve as a license to serve alcohol in our new Great Camp restaurant.

Within the next two weeks the new Member Services building at the main entrance will be completed and the entire front entrance will receive a face lift beginning with the widening of our entry point walls that cause a bottleneck of traffic with heavy construction equipment.  The entire area will be re-surfaced and our extensive road re-paving projects will begin simultaneously.

We also would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to Aaron Duke who has joined our Eagles Nest POA Staff as Property General Manager.  Aaron’s scope of work is in the process of being defined and his role is to alleviate the monumental workload that Lisa Bender has taken on when we transitioned from Mountain Management to POA self-management.  Aaron and his family reside in Roan Mountain, TN and have been a part of this surrounding community for the past 20 years.  There will be additional changes announced shortly as we continue to put in processes and improvements to help take our community to the next level and one we can all be proud of.  I will hand off the balance of the newsletter to Lisa and I thank you for your time and hope to see you at the concert.

Art Sabates, POA Board President

ADDITIONAL COMMUNITY UPDATES

Dollar General
We hope those of you who have had the opportunity to utilize the Dollar General at Great Camp have enjoyed your shopping experience.  This amenity features a cashierless operation and is open 24/7 for your convenience. If you have not patronized this store yet, please check it out on your next visit!  Here are a few tips on how to use this store:
  1. Enter a credit card at the machine located on the main entrance.
  2. You may enter your cell phone number to receive a receipt upon leaving the store.
  3. Once you and your party enter the store, please ensure that the door closes behind you; any items picked up by your party will be charged to your credit card.
  4. Multiple groups CAN shop at the same time.  The key is to make sure the door closes behind EACH party.
  5. While shopping, the advanced network of cameras turns each group into a specific color avatar to identify which parties are with which group.  The cameras do not capture specific facial recognition. They simply track each party with their identifiable color avatar to ensure each party is properly charged.
  6. This store is available for use to anyone on the mountain; owners, guests, renters, contractors etc.
If you have suggestions of other items you would like available in the store, please let us know and we'll share that with the Dollar General team!

Bear & Wildlife Safety
One of the highlights of mountain living is the variety of wildlife that we co-exist with and can enjoy from a safe distance.  The bears are highly active and hungry which is one of the reasons that bear proof trash cans are a requirement.  Once a bear finds a food source it will return repeatedly and are less afraid of people.  PLEASE PROPERLY DISPOSE OF TRASH IN BEAR PROOF CONTAINERS and do not leave food or bird feeders out that may entice or encourage bears to pay you a visit.  Please read on for more information about bears and how to safely co-exist with them.  Some of you may come across fawns later this summer, their mother will leave them in a quiet space while they go off to feed.  Most of the time, the fawn is safe and should not be disturbed, read on for more information about fawns and what to do if you find one.

AirMedCare Network/Wings Membership
We wanted to let you know about membership information with the AirMedCare Network.  We are lucky to have the excellent emergency response teams that are in place here in Avery County but we also wanted to share some information about Air Ambulance Services.  There are two helicopter landing zones within Eagles Nest, one is on the field at Great Camp near the Dollar General and the other is at the helipad at the North Pavilion.  In the event of a medical emergency requiring an airlift, Wings out of Elizabethton, TN, is the closest air medical transport to this area.  Wings is part of the AirMedCare Network where they have annual membership fees available for financial peace of mind in the event of a medical emergency.  Click here for more information about AirMedCare Network.  Please note: this is not something that you are required to join, they won't refuse care if you are not a member.

No Contractor Work Schedule
Please click here to see the list of holidays where there will be NO CONTRACTOR work allowed in Eagles Nest.

ATV & HIKING TRAILS
Adam Cranford and his crew have been hard at work on expanding our hiking trail system and enhancing the existing trails.  They have built several new bridges and cleared away brush and trees over several miles of trails and added new or updated trail markers.  Waterfront Group has added additional property off of McGuire and Buckeye Lake Road for use as additional hiking and ATV trails.  These trails will be accessible from the current community road or trail systems.  You can access the latest trail map by downloading The Lodges at Eagles Nest app from your Android or Apple app store.  More information about registering or renewing your ATVs for this year is further down in the newsletter under Safety & Member Services.

EAGLES NEST WINERY
The Winery is located just outside of the gate on Old Beech Mountain Road.  We currently have over 3,000 bottles of Eagles Nest Winery labeled wines in these varieties: two Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay. The General Manager of the Eagles Nest Winery is Ms. Kendal Mull and our winemaker is Joe Smith. Together they oversee the Eagles Nest Winery.  Access to the Winery is by membership only. There is an option to become a member for the day by purchasing a day pass. The Eagles Nest Winery is funded and operated solely by the developers, Will, Lavi and Mark Adkins.  NO Eagles Nest POA funds are used to operate the Winery. The venue provides an added amenity for Eagles Nest Property Owners, but is not a burden to the POA finances. Thank you to those who have joined as annual members and we look forward to seeing many new faces there over the coming months.  Click here for more information about the Eagles Nest Winery: http://eaglesnestatbannerelk.com/winery/

RIVER CLUB
Our in house fishing expert, Dr. Jim Fryar, has been hard at work again this year in preparation for the summer fishing season.  The ponds and Elk River were stocked in April and are ready for you to enjoy!  For those of you that are current River Club Members, please remember to wear a yellow bracelet or a yellow River Club hat while fishing in the Elk River.  If you would like to purchase a hat, please visit the Sales Office by the main gate, each hat is $20.  The River Club now has limited availability for new members.  If you've been thinking of joining or would like more information, please email Lisa Bender at lbender@mtnmanagementllc.com

COMMUNITY EVENTS
Lisa Bender has been working to put together another fun concert series of bands for the Great Camp stage.  She has done her best to bring back some favorites as well as add in a mix of new bands with the help of our sound engineer Mark Doran and POA President Art Sabates!  We will kick off our season on Saturday, May 28th of Memorial Day weekend with the band DELTA FIRE who will perform from 7pm-10pm.  Featured food trucks are Rascal Jacks and Fork in the Road.  Food trucks and the bar will open at 6pm.  The food service will be similar to last year with food trucks and Pizza at the Pavilion.  We are in the midst of getting our official ABC permit to sell alcohol.  Until we receive the final permit, we will have an open bar.  Once the POA is fully permitted, we will have a cash bar with nominal prices.
  • Fourth of July week is one of our biggest events at Eagles Nest!  This year we are welcoming the famed band CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD at Great Camp on Saturday, July 2!  Sunday, July 3 we will have Welter Entertainment at the North Pavilion from 1pm-3pm to host a riveting game of Family Feud, perfect for all ages.  We cap off the celebrations on the 4th of July at the North Pavilion featuring the ROCKIE LYNNE BAND, numerous food trucks, a bouncy house for the little ones and our iconic Fireworks show will take place around 9:45pm.  Waterfront Group is sponsoring this spectacular fireworks display!
  • Our 6th Annual Music Fest will take place on July 30th headlined by the Jebb Mac Band and we have added a Blues Fest on September 24th.  Adam Cranford will continue to plan and execute the Saturday activities for kids and some guided hikes too!  The full event calendar is at the end of this newsletter and we will send weekly event emails during the summer and fall – save the dates for your favorite bands!

INFRASTRUCTURE UPDATES

  • ROAD PAVING SCHEDULE
This was one of the snowiest winters in several years here and with that came the need for more plowing and salt which takes a toll on the roads.  A road assessment was performed in early March and road work will begin later this summer.  We will alert you when paving will be taking place as soon as possible so you are aware of possible delays.  We are at the mercy of the weather and material availability so some notifications of paving may be very last minute.
       COMMUNITY POST OFFICE
  • The Eagles Nest Post Office is only for USPS mail and packages.  UPS and FedEx will deliver to individual homes.  The USPS will only go to one central location within gated communities.  You will need a physical address at Eagles Nest to sign up for a PO Box (this happens once your builder starts pulling permits from the County).  If you would like to be added to the list for a mailbox, please email Kim Church at  kchurch@mtnmanagementllc.com.  The EN Post Office is located on Eagles Nest Maintenance Trail near the main entrance. To get to this building, when you enter the main gate, turn right onto Eagles Nest Maintenance Trail and the post office is the first building on your left.
  • WAYFINDING POINTS
Mountain Management has added wayfinding points and signage across the mountain and on hiking and ATV trails to assist owners, renters, and emergency responders to navigate the community safely.
  • TRASH COMPACTOR
The only operational trash compactor is located in the lower parking lot at the Great Camp, near the trail heads.  A second compactor will be located near the tennis courts, on the north side of Camp Eagles Nest. The second compactor will come on line when Mountain Electric locates a transformer that is large enough to power the unit. These compactors are and will be, for EN owner use only.
PROPER TRASH DISPOSAL & WILDLIFE
  • In order to prevent bears and other animals from getting into household trash, it is imperative that trash be disposed of properly by utilizing the trash compactor or by correct use of the bear proof trash cans.  Vacation rental companies will be responsible for any renter trash that is not properly disposed of and fines will be implemented as necessary.  **Disposing of any household trash into construction dumpsters is STRICTLY PROHIBITED. ** Any violation will result in a $500 fine.
